By forcing the architecture into deliberate “tight spots,” such as single-meter wide corridors, we transform a simple walkway into an intimate architectural journey. This is The Transit Engine, where every square inch is optimized for both tactile engagement and hidden utility.
The Floating Ascension
To maximize the footprint of a narrow corridor, we deploy the illusion of functional joinery. A minimalist floating staircase crafted from Pale Ash Wood rises cleanly along the wall. Tucked entirely underneath these floating treads is seamless, built-in Ash cabinetry that serves as the wall itself. The only interruption in this rhythmic wood grain is a single, heavy Unlacquered Brass pull-tab, subtly indicating the hidden storage within. Flooded by an unseen skylight, the space is washed in fierce, high-key daylight.
The Collision of Light and Weight
As we move through the threshold, the architectural tension spikes. The perfect, 90-degree rhythmic lines of Slatted Tambour Wood (White Ash) collide abruptly with a heavy, monolithic wall of Brutalist Concrete. To balance this brutalism, a sculptural Raw Alabaster wall sconce is flush-mounted directly into the concrete. Acting as a pure Light-Catcher, it emits a localized 2700K amber glow that fights against the natural daylight, proving that lighting should be an architectural event, not just a fixture.
